Show up. Stand up. Speak up.
We show up for Florida communities
When Floridian communities are in need, WVSWFL members from all corners of the state mobilize to support their neighbors, whether near or far. Last year, we provided 1,000 students in need of school supplies with fully-supplied backpacks! For more information on how to get involved in this year's backpack drive, visit our Backpack Drive (blank hyperlink, page in progress, still need more info and pictures) page.
We engage in planned and unplanned community support, as Floridians face increasingly unaffordable, natural disaster-prone situations at home. Last year, Hurricane Ian ravaged Southwest Florida, rendering our communities destitute. WVSWFL members, whose communities remained intact, joined State agencies and first responders (this is meant to emphasize non-partisanship nature of community relief efforts) in hurricane relief efforts.
WVSWFL members show up in numbers to support our fellow Floridians because we support each other in difficult times. A core tenet of our organizational philosophy, helping people in need extends beyond WVSWFL and encompasses all Floridian communities.
We stand up alongside Floridians statewide
WVSWFL's geographic and socioeconomic diversity empowers our members to get informed and take action against all attacks on individual freedoms in the state of Florida. (Please send me pics/vids, I'll try to clip, of School Board, BoM, AND legislative testimony). Directly addressing public officials and reminding them of their core mission, serving their communities, when they fail to do so is one of the ways we take action.
For instance, the recently remade, gubernatorial-appointed Florida Boards of Medicine were petitioned to ban Floridian minors from receiving life-saving gender-affirming care by the Surgeon General, another gubernatorial appointee. We responded in-kind by testifying against such targeted and dangerous bans.
WVSWFL also regularly shows up to both local and state-level public forums because we believe that attaining a government that serves the people requires reform from the ground-up.
We speak up when our Human rights are under attack
